CL-FREE
Low Salinity Water-Based
Description
The CL-FREE system is a low salinity drilling fluid for reactive formations, reservoirs and environmentally sensitive locations.
This hole stability system was developed in response to environmental concerns on onshore areas, where high salinity WBMs are not acceptable.
The hydrophobic behavior of the system allows higher performance in sensitive shale and reservoirs.
Application
CL-Free meets challenging drilling targets with minimal environmental impact. CL-Free should be considered in formations such as micro fractured shale, chalk or formations with interbedded dispersive clays, or where shales and reservoirs are at one interval.
Benefits
CL-FREE avoids chloride and high-salinity WBMs while improving solids removal efficiency. The CL-FREE system results in reduced bit-balling, dilution rates, production consumption, overall operating cost, and elapsed drilling time. Dispersion tests indicated that the inhibition of CL-FREE system is comparable to that of oil or synthetic base systems.
Treatment Recommendation
The low salinity system designed to meet difficult drilling targets with minimal environmental impact. Formations such as micro fractured shale, chalk or formations with interbedded dispersive clays and sands are the applications where a CL-FREE system should be considered. Formulations are treatment are available on the system brochure.
